Funny Wiring: All About
Autism - Gail Buckley (sample version)
According the The Autism Society of America, there are currently more that a million people
living with some form of autism in the US alone, and the number is on the rise. In fact, there has been a
tenfold spike in the number of children diagnosed with autism over the past 20 years, so that now plagues as
many as 1 out of every 166 children. And yet there is still no known cause for this affliction; no proven
cure and no real understanding of why people with autism are the way they are.
I have written a unique book about this intriguing syndrome, entitled, Funny Wiring:
Living With and Piecing Together the Puzzle of Autism. I have written this book, in part, to set the
record straight; to clarify what autism is and what it isn't.
In Funny Wiring,
I have recounted my personal experience in living and working with a child with autism from diagnosis through
adolescence up to adulthood. I present and delve into all aspects of the syndrome, focusing on strategies and
methodologies I found helpful in coping with and addressing the language, learning and behavioral challenges
that children with autism present to parents and teachers. I tell a tale of despair, of confusion, of
frustration, humiliation, dedication, love and ultimately, of hope and fulfillment.
But Funny Wiring
goes far beyond story telling. It is also a recording of three years of extensive research into autism. In it
I’ve examined autism from every possible angle. I’ve taken the best of all that’s been written on the subject
and added to it information gleaned from my own extensive research on the human brain, on sensory
integration, on neuro-biochemistry, microbiology and nutritional healing.
Funny Wiring covers the full gamut: from diagnostic and assessment practices, to educational methodologies, to dietary interventions,
to the very latest neurological and biochemical facts and findings. Not to mention, the story of a beautiful
child struggling to cope and connect, and parents trying to wend their way through the precarious perils and
pitfalls that autism spectrum presents.
